Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine, was funded by the renowned Hong Kong industrialist Sir Run Run Shaw and the Zhejiang Provincial Government. It is a large public tertiary Class A comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, teaching, and research. It is the first hospital in China to pass the international JCI accreditation and Magnet hospital recognition, and the first to join the MAYO CLINIC Care Network in China. Adhering to the "patient-centered, employee-oriented" management philosophy, the hospital has won the title of "Best Employer among Chinese Medical Institutions" for nine consecutive years. Department of General Surgery
Founded in 1994 as a model of American medical systems in China, the department is a China Clinical Key Specialty and a key base for standardized surgical residency training. The department features international-leading technology in minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment for liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic diseases. It hosts the National Engineering Research Center for MIS Innovation. With 119 physicians (nearly 70% with PhDs), it performs over 20,000 surgeries annually, with hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery being its core strength.
